Thankful For…

many things, but most of all for my husband. I have good health, a good job, a loving family, a home, a car and many other wonderful things. But my husband is absolutely the cream of the crop. I’ve blabbered on enough about my mother and my situation with her so I won’t go any further into it here other than to tell you this one small story. The weekend before Thanksgiving I was supposed to go to my mother’s house just like most other weekends. But at the last minute I decided I wanted to be at home and to bring her to my house instead of me going to hers. So I called my husband and asked him if he minded my doing that. He said, “Bring her here, I certainly don’t mind”. Ok, that’s kind of him. But the real topper was when he called me back about 5 minutes later and as soon as I said hello, he said, “I want you to stop feeling guilty about your mother. After all, she’s my family, too.” I said, “Huh? Feeling guilty?” He said, “Yes. You feel guilty that she is intruding in our life. Well, stop. She is your mother and my mother-in-law, and together you and I will make this work. So stop feeling guilty because you think she is a burden to me. She isn’t. She’s family.”

You know, they just don’t come any better than that.

Ernie, your husband is an absolute gem! What a wonderful guy. Your relationship exemplifies what marriage is supposed to be all about...whatever the situation you are there to love and support each other and make it work together.

Thanks for sharing that!
