My Point and Shoot is Shot

I had to work through my lunch hour the last few days so didn't get an opportunity to do my lunch portrait!  I took my small point and shoot camera, my trusty Canon PowerShot A95, to work thinking maybe I could sneak in a minute or two and grab a "quickie" - a "quickie" photo that is!  But, sorry to say, my little PowerShot finally and completely died.  Dead.  The sensor is gone.  So, do I spend the money to send it off and get it fixed?  Or do I buy a new one?  Saint Gene convinced me (and it wasn't hard to do) to buy a new point and shoot.  I wanted to stay with Canon because they are one of the few companies still providing an optical viewfinder on their point and shoot cameras. Those little display screens just don't work well in bright light.  So I wanted an optical viewfinder.   Off to Wal-Mart I went Friday night (I wanted to be able to return it immediately if there was a problem) and bought a new, pink, Canon PowerShot A1100 IS - 12 Megapixels and 5X Optical zoom.  Wouldn't have chosen pink but it was the only color they had.  Took a few pictures that night and the next morning - they were awful!!  Fuzzy and the colors were off.  So Saturday morning it was back to Wal-Mart.  Now I'm the owner of a new Canon PowerShot A1200 IS - 10 Megapixels, 3X Optical zoom -fewer megapixels, less zoom, more money.  But does it ever take good pictures!!  The two pictures above have had almost nothing done to them and they are crisp and colorful.  And they were taken on automatic.  The new camera doesn't have much in the way of manual controls.  Ok, it has NO manual controls but there are choices I can make in program mode which will work just as well for my purposes.  It's tiny, weighs almost nothing and is a nice turquoise color.  So far I'm delighted with it and proudly present my Saturday and Sunday lunch portraits - both taken in my front yard.

I'm wanting a new camera. I'm still tyring to decide if I'm ready for a Canon Rebel 1010 SLR. I think I need to study photography a little more.
