Playing with Light

Photobucket
Our little city and county will never win any awards for beauty. But there is one little spot that is almost always a joy to visit, O'Neal Plaza. The city some years ago closed a street and turned the street into a wonderful little plaza that hosts concerts, movies, craft fairs, etc. And one of it's prettiest features is a fountain that creates sparkling little splashes of water. I've photographed this fountain before but wanted to give it another go while playing with my new "skills" in manual mode on my camera. It was late afternoon and the light was surprisingly good, not too "hot" but still bright enough to give the water some sparkle. I was sweating like crazy and the occasional spray from the fountain felt great. The hardest part was waiting for people to go by as it was a busy afternoon at the little plaza. There are several nearby restaurants, Gumbeaux's, a Cajun restaurant, and The Irish Bred Pub, so people will often walk through the plaza to get to those restaurants. But I was happy to wait, it was good to see people using and enjoying our little hidden gem. The city and plaza will be hosting a low country boil followed by a concert of some local musicians next Saturday and I am seriously considering paying for someone to sit with my mother so Saint Gene and I can go and enjoy it.

Beautiful fountain, and a lovely photo, Ernie! I love the water spray sparkling in the sunlight. Your description of the plaza made me wish I could have lunch there with you. I'm hungry and Cajun food sounds sooo good!

A beautifully refreshing photo. You did a great job of capturing the splashes. I too enjoyed the story, and would love to be there to see it, except for that heat and humidity thing ;-)
