Digital Magic

Photobucket        Photobucket
Digital photography is amazing. And the key word is "digital". Above is a before and after picture I took while at the old tobacco barn in North Carolina. When I opened it on my computer I was very disappointed in the exposure - it was obviously underexposed and way too dark. But through the miracle of a graphics program and a lot of adjustments it was salvaged. I need to put in the normal disclosure: This would have been a better picture if it had been properly exposed in the camera. Adjustments of the magnitude that I had to make to this photo to get it "right" alway destroy some of the integrity of the finished product and print quality is often compromised. And I would not have been anywhere near as successful if the picture had been overexposed. But being able to "save" photos that you might otherwise have to trash is a beautiful thing.

I'm a terrible photographer (truthfully, all I have is a little point and shoot). But my best friend has gotten me interested in improving my skills and I've had the most fun taking images and editing them! It's amazing what can be done with a little help from time to time.
