Puppy Days of Summer

The late July-like weather we're having right now in Atlanta does have some good benefits. All of the tropical plants are loving it, plants like the hibiscus on my almost-full sun deck. And the extra benefit of this is that it gives my mother so much pleasure. We have the hibiscus positioned so that she sees it as soon as she comes in the dining room and it's also in her direct line of sight on those now-rare occasions (too, too hot!) when we sit on the deck. When I bought the plant it had only one bloom on it (the one shown in the photo) but it now has many, many buds and will soon be in glorious full bloom. We got a little rain last night, which helped cool things down in the evening, but it turned today into a steambath.

It's a little early for the dog days of summer to be here so I'll just call these the puppy days of summer and try hard not to complain. I moaned and groaned all winter about the cold and wet so I'll try to be patient with the heat. And thank the Lord for my air-conditioned house, office and car.

Joy Journal: A friend brought me some wonderful hydrangea cuttings to root - Fuji Waterfall.
