Can You Guess What it Is?

Cables
Don't be surprised if you can't.  Chances are good that it's something you've never seen before. I work in a humongous building (55 floors) and building management has been doing some maintenance on our elevators. I walked into the elevator lobby on my floor (notice the possessive? "My" floor. Yeah, right) and saw some strange looking items laying next to the elevator door. Of course, I couldn't resist taking a close up picture. But what are they? Turns out they are graphite cable connectors. The cables holding the elevators were being replaced and these graphite cable connectors were used to splice the new cable into the old cable so the new cable could be put into place. The sparkly, shiny bits are actually a form of gritty adhesive to help the cable "get a grip" (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist). Unfortunately, the focus on the picture isn't very sharp. It's hard to take close up pictures hanging over the "Do Not Enter" barriers - a camera held extended way out in front of you is not a steady camera. But I still think it's a cool picture.

I love it, Ernie! Just goes to show that art is everywhere if you only look for it! Fun photo.

Of course, I couldn't guess. I waited forever because I thought it looked familiar- but geez- I would have never guessed that in a million years. How awesome that you thought to grab your camera- your eye must tell your mind- Hey, that's a great photograph!
